We did have a week of writing and finishing our book for our kindergartners, but we still other things to do.
Math workshop
We did some cleaning out of our data notebooks. Students took home their pre and post test for unit 1-4. We took our post test for unit 5 and our pre test for unit 6. Our volume 1 math journal is almost complete. Students will be taking them home throughout this upcoming week. We will start unit 6 with our new volume 2 math journal. On Friday we searched through unit 6 in the math journal, to look ahead to see the things that we may already know and things that will be new. One area that as a class we can continue to practice is telling time at the quarter past and quarter to. Name boxes is a new concept that once taught, students will do really well.
Reading workshop
We started to dive into nonfiction texts this week. We have been creating our own nonfiction text feature notebook. In this notebook, we have been collecting pictures of text features in books that we have been reading, our weekly scholastic magazines and read alouds. This is going to be a handy tool for the students to complete because they will be creating their own nonfiction animal book throughout the next month of writing.
Science
We will continue to study weather as our seasons are changing. We will also continue to analyze our February and March weather to see if groundhog Phil's predict is correct.
We will be starting our liquids and solids next week.
Reminders:
Our Valentine's Day party will be in the PM on Tuesday. Please have your Valentine's boxes and valentines on Monday or Tuesday.
We will be celebrating the 100th day of school in the morning on Tuesday. I will be providing snack in the morning that day.
Our mid-winter break starts at 3:38 pm on Friday! We will return back Monday February 27th.
