We have been very busy the past couple weeks!
Last night report cards went home. Please make sure that you sign the envelope for the first card marking and return the empty envelope to me by the end of the week. As a little incentive, when your child brings the signed envelope back they will get a candy cane. Remember that your child has been working hard at school and to celebrate their accomplishments and to choose one area that your child would like to work on. Make a goal and a plan to help them achieve this goal. It is amazing what your child will want to achieve!
Everyone did an amzing job singing at the concert on Tuesday! DVD's are still available to order if you would like to purchase one for $10.
Our Holiday party has been planned! Friday December 23rd in the morning from 8:30-10:15. Please check your email for a sign up geniuos if you would like to donate anything or vounteer to help.
Remember to sign up for Seesaw, using the paper that I gave you over conferences. I will be sending another one home before break if you have not signed up yet. We will be using this more and more as the year goes on.
I spoke about homework being turned in starting after our Winter break. I will be giving more details about this the week we get back from break.
Math Workshop
We have been busy measuring! We have used measuring tape and rulers using the unit of inches. We are getting better and better! Today we learned about timelines. This was a challenging concept. There is homework tonight. Please sit and really help your child with the homeowrk tonight. We will be continuing learning about timelines as the year goes on.
Writing Workshop
Our class has grown so much as authors. We have amazing ideas that help make our narratives interesting to read! We have been focusing on adding end marks, starting our ssentences with capital letters, using finger spaces and spelling our word wall words correctly.
Reading Workshop
We have been focusing on making connections while we are reading our stories. This is a great skill to help student be engaged in the story that they are reading. It also shows that your child is understanding what they are reading.
We are also jumping into retelling. It is important that your child can tell you the main events in the order that they happened. This is something that you and your child can practice while they are reading to you or if you are reading to them. This is am important basic skill your child needs in order to move on to the higher level thinking skills.
Social Studies
We are enjoying our stories and work about our families. We are learning all about needs and wants that we have in our own life as well as comparing them to parents needs and wants. It is very interesting to see the students reactions.
