In your child's blue folder there is WRITING HOMEWORK! We are finishing up our unit on 'how to" writing. Your child will have to plan something that they are good at and plan out how to do it using the planning sheet. There is an example attached to the back of the packet for help. This is due Thursday February 1st. Please let me know if you have any questions.
Scholastic book orders are due Wednesday January 31st!!!!
Reading workshop
We began our nonfiction unit. We have started by practicing asking questions about books. As we go into next week we will be learning about different text features. During library I had the students choose nonfiction books that they were interested in. This may not be a book that at their just right level. That is okay.
Writing workshop
We have completed our last 'how to' as a class. We wrote about how to get dressed for outside in winter! We actually practiced getting ready first and then wrote our steps. We made a supplies list and wrote a quick 'how to' using first, next, then and last as our transition words. Order is very important.
Math workshop
We have been focusing on place value this week. We have used base ten blocks, pennies and dimes and our number grid/scrolls. Our number scrolls help us to really understand the number grid, its patterns and how place value plays an important role.
Word study
This week we focused on consonant blends. Here are a few example bl-, pl-, sp-,fr-, gr-. We learned how th- is different because a completely new sound is made when 't' and 'h' are put together. We searched our books during read to self and found so many different ones.
