Reading workshop
We have been reading our chart paper filled with information on facts about predators, food, babies and other interesting facts. They have sorted through the facts to write the facts that they would like in their animal books. My first graders blew me away with their team work and kindness to help others in their animal groups. I had a few students who were sick this week. Make up work was heavy due to the rough draft writing, but once again their team members help them get all caught up with the group. This is team work in action!
Writing workhop
We have finished writing our rough draft of our animal reports and now we are on to our final draft. We have started our cover and the first couple pages. We can't wait to be finish so we are able to celebrate this book and the process to be over!
Word Study
This week we continued Magic e at the end of a word changing the vowel to say its own name (the long vowel sound). Everyone is really showing a great understanding of this rule. Now we have to continually show this in our reading and writing. We are almost there. :)
Math workshop
We have started to use the function machine and the in and out chart. This can be a tricky topic for first graders to understand. It takes practice and checking answers to make sure that the answer are correct. Please complete these homework to see how your child is understanding this. We will be reviewing this again a couple more times this year.
