On Friday, we practiced working as a team. The students were asked to put together a puzzle in their small group. I told them that in order to win the entire team has to put together their puzzle. They had to create a plan and work together.
They had 20 minutes to put the puzzle together in their small group. When the first group finished their puzzle, they screamed with excitement because they "won". The other groups looked disappointed. I whispered to the group that finished, that they didn't win because everyone isn't finished. I repeated the rule about you win when the entire team's puzzle is out together. I pointed to our class as a team. A couple students got it and told the other students that they had to help the other teams because we are one big team...in order to win we all have to have all the puzzles together. They learned a very important skill working together is better.
