The weather is definitely changing! We are talking about the changing weather every morning. We talk about the temperature and then what we are seeing outside, as well as any physical changes that we can see happening outside.
Writing Workshop
This has been a very busy week for us in writing! We are working very hard to finish our personal narrative final project. Most of us will be finished by the end of today. We have adventured through the entire writing process for the first time this year! We started with brainstorming, planning, writing our rough draft, revising, editing, and publishing our writing. next week some time we are working to celebrate our stories by sharing our books with the Kindergarten classes. Having a "real" audience helps to give purpose when writing their stories and they know that someone, other than myself, will be enjoying their stories. I will be showing them to you at conferences!
Math Workshop
We have really started Unit 3 this week. We started by learning about part-part total diagrams. These are diagrams that help organize addition problems. We then continued to practice more with change to more and change to less diagrams. This entire unit gives students practice with number stories. When we solve the number stories we are looking for the important information; numbers, units and the big question of what we need to solve.
Reading workshop
We started to learn about making connections this week. This is the first reading strategy that we will practice to use to help us, as early readers, understand what we are reading. We will continue to practice this for a couple weeks.
We learned about the importance of Veterans Day. We read a scholastic news about Veterans and we had a mini book that gave us some simple importance information about veterans. To finish our Friday afternoon, we wrote letters and decorated pictures for veterans. We are sending them to Operation Gratitude. This is a program that will use our letters in care packages that they send to veterans around the U.S. It was a great way to end our week, with a little thanks!
