We had a visitor from the Detroit Fire Department. Firefighter Jim came and taught us about fire safety to the entire 1st grade. We learned a lot about what we need to do to keep us safe when we are at home. He showed us all of his heavy protective gear that he needs to have so he is safe during a fire rescue. Talking about fire safety can be a little scary for 1st graders, so make sure that you have a quick chat with your child about a few things:
1. Make a plan of what to do if there was a fire in your house.
2. Practice with a fire drill, just like we do at school.
3. Talk about important numbers (911).
4. A firefighter's job is to keep us safe.

Just a quick reminder, tomorrow afternoon we have our NWEA reading test. I will keep all of you updated around conferences about this test and what is means.
Scholastic book orders were placed for September. They should be here late this week or early next week. The next order will be placed on October 31st.
