Last week we focused our attention on earth week. We learned about ways that we use the earth and what the earth does for us. We made a class promise to try harder to help make the earth clean for future generations. We learned about the rain forest and all of the animals in the rain forest. We also read our Scholastic News that gave us lots of information about where trash goes and who is in charge of recycling and trash pick up.
Science
Last week we had earth week, which was the perfect time to start our new plants unit! We planted our first seed, the brassica seed. We had a full weekend of growth and have some interesting observation for today! We also discussed the things that a plant/seed needs to live. We came up with water, soil, sunlight and air. In our discussion, we decided to test these theories of what a plant needs. We have created three NEEDS plant experiments:
Reading
We are starting our unit on visualizing. We will use our mind to make movies in our heads to help us understand the story that we are reading.
Writing
Today I introduced similes. A similes is when you compare two things using the words like or as. As a class, we came up with some examples for:
The room was AS QUIET AS...
Math
We will end our math unit by the end of the week. We will be doing a few more activities with sharing money(early dividing of counters), place value practice and wrapping up with fractions.
