WOW! Can you believe that we have been in school for 33 days already? We can't believe it! It feels longer that only 33 days.
Reminders:
We will have our Halloween party on October 31st. A note is going home today giving you some more information. Please let me know if you have any questions.
Writing Workshop
We have almost finished our first unit in writing, personal narrative. We have focus on the look of our writing this week. We have mainly focused on using capitals letters and end marks. In first grade, we focus on capitalizing names of people and places, The beginning of sentences and the letter ' I '. The end marks are periods, question marks and exclamation marks. We were able to practice these ideas through our skeleton writing and our creepy carrot writing.
Reading workshop
We are almost done with our first unit, reading life and routines. We have learned more about our reading stations/rotations. We have learned more about checking out classroom library books. We have also talked more about problem solving during our reading stations. If someone is bothering you...what should you do? It is amazing the ways they found to solve their problem!
Math workshop
This week was a big week in math. We really dove into learning about number pair combinations within 10. Students were collaborating with each other to figure out if all the combinations were found. We used our ten frames and red and apples to help us visualize every combination. We then talked about our findings and I helped them see the pattern in a chart we made as a class. This was such a great activity, but it lasted a couple of days.
