Math workshop
We have been reviewing a couple of ideas as this unit comes to an end. We have reviewed shapes, both 2D and 3D shapes. We have learned about fractions and sharing things to help understand fractions a bit more. The main idea about fractions that we need to remember is that a fraction is an equal part of a whole. I will be giving unit 8 assessment this week.
Reading workshop
We have been practicing our stations and we are getting into series books or authors. As we begin to understand what kind of things that we all like to read, sometimes we find that we like to read books by the same author. We will be looking at different authors and book series to help spark the love of reading as they leave first grade.
Writing Workshop
Last week finished up our writing in our mothers day project and completed our last writing for Grosse Pointe Writing. The entire class did a wonderful job staying focused and practicing all the concepts of writing that we have practiced all year long!
Word study
We finished our long o words and we have started our words that end in 'ck'. I am also introducing compound words (two words that are combined together to make one new word) and homophones (words that sound the same, but have different spellings and meanings).
