Well it looks like 6 more weeks of winter! We will be looking at if this legend is real as we look at our weather and temperature every day.
Every student turned in their how to plan on time! We will begin our How to book tomorrow! We can't wait to share it with you!
Reminders:
Next week Feb. 5-9:
Thursday February 8th: 12:30 The Little Mermaid play.
** Thank you for all who signed up to drive. If you have signed up to drive it is important that you are on time and there because between the three classes we have just enough seats for students.
We had a couple parents cancel to be a driver. At this time we are short drivers. If you are willing to drive next Thursday at 12:30 for the play and return at around 3-3:30, please let me know asap! Thank you!
Friday February 9th is the 100th day of school.
Feb. 12-16:
Feb. 14 Valentine's day, bring valentine's boxes and valentines to school. (Note went home today)
February 19-23 is no school: winter break
Reading workshop
We have started our nonfiction reading unit. We are learning about all of the nonfiction text features. We have learned about labels, photographs, captions, close-ups and comparisons. We are becoming aware of the different text features and how they will help us, as readers, to better understand the information in the book. This is preparing us for our next writing unit of nonfiction animal reports.
Writing workshop
I have been conferencing with students to talk about their practice Grosse Pointe Writing stories. I have to say that they have come a long way from the beginning of the year! It is always amazing how much they change as a writer!
Math workshop
This week in math we have continued our practice with comparing number by looking at place value and using the number lines and number grids to help. We started scrolls and any extra time the students want to work on them, they have! If you have any of the card board from paper towels, please send them in. We will be using them to store our scroll neatly. I am sending home Unit 4 assessment home today. This unit test is not the same as others because it is a test on all information learned have learned this year and not just in unit 4. As of now we are looking at finishing Unit 5 the end of next week or the beginning of the following.
Word study
We have continued to concentrate on consonant blends. This week we focused on st-. The class is really noticing other consonant blends in other words as they are reading. It is a wonderful feeling when they make these connections in other subject areas.
I have placed the scholastic book order on Wednesday. It should be here in the middle to the end of next week. The next order will be placed February 28, the Wednesday we return from winter break.
Stay Healthy!
