It has been a warm week here at Monteith! We have had a very eventful week.
You will notice that I have put a new insert into your child's folder. It is updated because we have a new student to our classroom. We have 23 students. Our class has done a wonderful job at welcoming her to this school. I know that it has made things a lot easier.
Our end of the year picnic will be on June 4 in the morning through lunch. We will be sending home permission slips and more information soon!
Reading workshop
We were able to get back into our regular routine of reading stations. This week we were reminded of our expectations with our rotations and practiced the entire week. We learned about compound words and practiced making them with a fun ice cream match up game. We checked out new just right books from our classroom library and were able to use the computers and the IPads to go onto RAZ kids.
Writing Workshop
We have finished our nonfiction books and I am working on a date for us to celebrate with the kindergartners next week. We had our first Grosse Pointe Writing assessment this week and everyone did amazing! I am so proud of them!
Math workshop
We are into our geometry and shapes. We have been "sharing" shapes, circles, squares, rectangles and triangles. This is the beginning of parts of a whole and fractions. The most important part at this point is that we are sharing equal parts of a whole. The names of these parts will be the fraction. We have talked about halves, thirds and fourths. We will continue this next week and I will be incorporating fractions practice into our rotations as well.
Word Study
We will be moving out of our magic e practice and into the long u spelling patterns of oo. I will also introduce our "h" buddies!
