This week has been a bit crazy! We have had many students out sick, we celebrated 100's day Monday, Valentine's Day Wednesday, and we replaced math with science for the week!
WOW!
Reminders:
Next week no school! mid winter break!
March 1-begin One Book One School (more information to come your way)
March 2-Dr. Seuss's Birthday-Our big celebration day! Look at the hand out in folders for details!
March 6- 1/2 day
March 14/15- Parent Teacher Conferences
March 15 - 1/2 day
March 16- 1/2 day
Science Exploration
We had a week of science fun! We have been learning and exploring all about liquids and solids. We talked about their properties (how to describe them). We were able to get hands on and feel them, bend them, shake them. We talked about what we as scientist do. We learned about observing, collecting data, talking about what we are finding in our experiment and always asking more questions! We also talked about if our questions are not answered using books to find more information. Many said to use google...I mentioned with an adult only! :) We will finish up our science unit when we come back from break and begin our investigation of gases and how liquids and solids can change.
Writing Workshop
We have focused on our rough draft of our how to writing project! Most of us are almost done. I am challenging the students to make sure that they are using complete sentences and adding a little bit of personality to their how to writing. We will be starting our final draft writing today. When we return we will finish the writing and begin the illustrations. We are going to have these complete for parent teacher conferences!
Reading workshop
We have focused on our nonfiction text features and finding them in our non fiction books that we are reading at our just right books. We will finish the rest of the text features the week we get back and begin reading about our animals that we will have for our next nonfiction writing activity!
Word study
We started our word study of adding the inflectional ending -ing at the end of a word. We did not complete this. We will continue to learn about this and we will not be moving ahead in spelling. There will not be another spelling sent home this week.
Please stay healthy and relax over break! I will be sending home some fact sheet to practice and one blank book to write about one thing from over break. Challenge them to add some details!
